Day 1

Hey all! Thanks for viewing my blog!
I guess I should start with a little bit of background on my health and my journey.
I grew up eating junk! Taco Bell, McDonalds, Totinos pizza rolls, you know what I’m talking about. We also had fresh veggies from our garden, but a lot of meat and potato dishes as well. Health wasn’t really something that was discussed. I was overweight most of my childhood but thinned out eventually. When I was 17 (I’m 26 now) I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), which is a hormonal imbalance/autoimmune issue. I became overweight again (but worse) because I didn’t do anything about it. Eventually, about 5 years ago I decided to make the change. I had gotten to 180 lbs and for someone that is 5’2″, I was considered very overweight. My doctor told me to go on a high protein, low carb diet and take my three prescriptions that they had prescribed for my PCOS and weight issues.
I started the diet and my medications. I hated taking all of those prescriptions at such a young age. That wasn’t the way I pictured my life and I wanted to find a way out. I started doing my own research on health and watching documentaries, which led me to The China Study by Dr. Campbell. I began eating a whole foods, plant based diet. After just a short time, I felt better than I ever had! It was absolutely amazing.
Then, a year later, stress came into my life in a way it never had before. I had met the girl of my dreams and it turned out she had undiagnosed high functioning autism, which she didn’t know until after we met. We couldn’t communicate with each other, work was really stressful (we were both ABA therapists working with children with autism), and we could not figure out our lives in a healthy way. We had no energy to prepare healthy foods and ordering vegan junk food off of the Taco Bell menu was way easier.
After a year or so of that, I was hit with some really bad stomach issues. I didn’t go to the doctor because I kept crossing my fingers that it would just go away without trying to change anything about my diet. Well, it didn’t. I went on like that for a long time and it just continued to get worse. I started experiencing weird muscle pains all over my body, fatigue, bad anxiety (because I had never experienced all of these crazy symptoms before), severe inflammation in my intestines and stomach, stomach pain, and brain fog. I ended up having to quit the job I had at the time because my anxiety got to be so bad. I got a diagnosis of Candida (a yeast overgrowth in the GI tract) and went on the strict diet I was supposed to be on. Then I had to stop because my heart palpitations got so bad and I was very weak. Being on the diet itself during that time in my life made me anxious because I didn’t actually feel ready to make the changes. My whole heart wasn’t in it–which is why I think the palpitations manifested. I wasn’t eating enough and I wasn’t doing it the way I should have. So I went back to eating junk, even though I was no longer inflamed and I was feeling a lot better in my stomach area.
So now to present day…
I’m yet again extremely inflamed, my allergies are terrible, my skin is incredibly dry, my muscles are tense and twitch a lot, I’ve gone through bouts of hair loss (mostly eyebrows), and I am ready to be better. My favorite activity is hiking and climbing mountains and I need to get myself to a place where I can do that freely and easily without any severe aches and pains when I’m done. I’ve started doing yoga and eating more vegetables. So today is the day, my friends. No more cheat days, no more unhealthy habits. This is it! Yoga in the mornings with Candida-friendly foods all day, every day! Usually after I eat dinner I will stuff myself with more snacks or desserts until it’s time for bed, so it is time to change that mindset! I am motivated and I will heal.
Every day I will be posting my habits and what I’m eating so that I can hold myself accountable and hopefully help others who are motivated to get their health and lives back after Candida overgrowth. I know I am!

So let’s start with today!
For the first five days I am following the Dr. Axe Candida protocol, which can be found here: and it is also a helpful source if you aren’t sure if you have Candida or not.
So for the first two days I am only drinking the homemade veggie broth and water.
Tomorrow is also my first colon hydrotherapy appointment at 10am. If you aren’t sure what that is, I highly recommend looking it up. It is a great thing to do before you start a cleanse or start changing your eating habits. It gives you a little jumpstart, especially if you are suffering from a Candida overgrowth.
Thank you for being a part of my journey! I am thinking of also starting a vlog so I’ll post the links to that if that ends up happening.
Be well and blessed!
